Eugene Carl Young, 93, of Amarillo passed away on March 28, 2021. Funeral Services will be at 10 am Thursday April 1, 2021 at Comanche Trail Church of Christ at 2700 SE 34th Ave, in Amarillo, TX, with minister Loran Harper officiating. Burial will follow I Memorial Park Cemetery, 6969 East I-40, in Amarillo, TX. The family will receive friends on Wednesday March 31st from 5-7 pm at Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Eugene was born on November 27, 1927 to Ferd and Arena Young in Hollis, OK. He was the seventh of nine children and grew up on a farm. He was eager to leave the farm to serve his country and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1946. On May 12, 1950 Gene started his career as a firefighter for the Amarillo Fire Department. He served the department in many capacities. He was promoted to Captain in 1973. He retired on November 1, 1986 as a Captain. He married DeLois Jennings on May 9, 1986 in Amarillo. Eugene "Gene" was a man known for his generosity and service to others. He served his country, city, community, church and family. He leaves behind a legacy of love and commitment and will never be forgotten. Eugene was preceded in death by his wife DeLois Young, his parents, four brothers Otis Young, Curtis Young, Raymond Young and Elmer Young, and two sisters Ruby Cole and Iola Brawley. He is survived by three daughters Denise Davenport and husband Mark of Amarillo. Jana Young of Bertram, TX and Dee Clark of Myrtle Beach, SC, two step-daughters Pam Snyder and husband Casey of Amarillo. Brenda Holmes of Troy, Illinois and a step son Mike Jennings of Amarillo, two sisters Ella Auldridge and Ozelle Sutton both of Amarillo. His beloved grand children Paul Davenport and wife Libby of McKinney, TX, Dana Davenport Pierce and husband Clint of Amarillo, Nicole Ramos and husband David of Bozeman, MT, Lindsey Reger and husband John of North Richland Hills, TX, Macon Clark and wife Amy of Hurst, TX. Step grandchildren Kenny Holmes and wife of Illinois, Chris Holmes of Illinois, Jessica Hendrix and husband Zack of Amarillo, Jake Snyder and wife Chaylee of Amarillo, Elizabeth Jennings, Kaitlyn Snyder and Mathew Jennings all of Amarillo. He was blessed with and loved tremendously by his great grandchildren Madison, Avery, Olivia, Alexis, Jillian, Elijah, Weston, Jaymes, Isaiah, Sam, Ethan, Ryan, Landon, Peyton, Hudson, Brooklyn, Layla, Mikey, Zayden, Zayne, Ava, and Cooper. His survivors include also many nieces and nephew. Eugene is also survived by many close friends including Chris Hamilton and Alta Hogan. Family expresses gratitude for the BSA Hospice of the Southwest for their wonderful care and dedication with special thanks to Shawn and Amanda. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to the Comanche Trail Church of Christ benevolence or the Amarillo Fire Fighter Local #542 Benevolence Fund.
