Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Charles A. and Marian (Crane) Goodwin.
Mr. Goodwin was a member of the East Providence Police Department for 35 years, retiring with the rank of Captain.
He was then employed as a federal grant coordinator for the Rhode Island Governor's Office for Highway Safety for ten years. He also served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War.
Mr. Goodwin received a Masters Degree in Management from Lesley University in Cambridge, MA. He also received a Bachelors Degree from Roger Williams University and an Associates Degree from Northeastern University, both in criminal justice.
He was a member of the adjunct faculty at Bristol Community College and Roger Williams University. He was also the first court officer of the East Providence Municipal Court and a member of the East Providence Planning Board. He was a member of the East Providence Police and Fire Retirees Association, the East Providence Police Beneficial Association and the East Providence Fraternal Order of Police.
Besides his wife he leaves one stepson, Henry F. Walther and two step grandchildren, Henry E. Walther and Matthew B. Walther. He was the father of the late Terrence M. Goodwin.
His funeral services were private.
