Karen L. Van Goethem, age 71, passed away Friday September 23, 2016 at home surrounded by her family due to lymphoma.

She was born December 28, 1944 in the Town of Preble, to Alice and Elmer Greatens. Karen married Harold Van Goethem at Holy Martyrs of Gorcum Catholic Church on May 29, 1965. Together they celebrated almost 47 years of marriage. Harold preceeded her in death on April 3, 2012.

Karen graduated from Preble High School in 1963. She worked along with her husband as the Office Manager for Van Goethem and Son Construction. Besides being a devoted mother caring for her family and friends she also enjoyed volunteering at Aurora Hospital. Karen's true love was enjoying time with her husband, kids and grandkids.

Survivors include son, Lonny Van Goethem (Karin Vandenhouten, Kegan and Kaeli) Kewaunee, daughters, Shelly (Chris) Vengrowsky, DePere, Korry (Tom) Kleiman, Luxemburg, Wendy (Tom) Suess, Luxemburg and Toni (Brad) Radish, Appleton, twelve grandchildren: Carli, Abigail and Elliot Van Goethem, Jonica (Arron) Mincheski, Jacobey and Janayha Vengrowsky, Jesse and Coy Kleiman, Breanna and Tyler Suess and Blake and Cade Radish, Brother; Gale (Pat) Greatens, Sister; Sherry Heim, Brothers -in-law: Arnold Van Goethem, Darrold (Pat) Van Goethem, Wilbert (Linda) Van Goethem, Ray (Jeanette) Van Goethem, Sister-in-law; Marianne Greatens, Carol Le Lou, Elaine Leiterman, Betty (Howard) Zimmer-Wegner, Diane (Vincent) Delain, Carol (Dale Fictum) Van Goethem. She was preceeded in death by her parents Elmer and Alice Greatens, brother Harley Greatens and sister Denise Greatens. Father-in-law and Mother-in-law Archie and Myrtle Van Goethem, brothers-in-law Robert Van Goethem, Marcien Le Lou, Marlin Zimmer, Don Leiterman and Sister-in-law Joyce Van Goethem and Jon Chervenka who holds a special place in the Van Goethem family.

Friends may call after 4:00pm Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at Buchanan Funeral Home, Kewaunee. A parish wake service will be held at 7:00 pm. Visitation continues at the funeral home on Wednesday until 10:30 am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Wednesday September 28, 2016 at St. Joseph/St John Church, Pilsen by Father Dennis Drury.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
