David worked at Sun Ship Building & Dry Dock while there he worked on the Howard Hughes Glomar Explorer, which was commissioned by the CIA. He then retired from Boeing as a jig and fixture builder. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He served three terms in the Fairview City Council. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and golfing.
David is survived by his children, Kimberly Mercer and David Mercer, Jr. and his wife Irina; his companion, Shirley Boord; five grandchildren; a brother, Fred Mercer, Jr. and his wife Doris; and his sisters, Ann Hando and Rebecca Bonfili.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Mercer; and his son, Douglas Mercer.
The family will receive friends at Domico Funeral Home – Curry Chapel, 100 Grant Street in Fairview, on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. The funeral will be at the funeral home on Wednesday at 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery with full military rights.
