Otis D. Washington, 90, passed away on March 23, 2021. He was a native of Mississippi and a resident of Newport News for 58 years. O.D. served in the U.S. Army in both the Korean and Viet Nam wars and retired after 33 years as an E8, Master Sergeant.

O.D. was preceded in death by his parents, Roosevelt and Rosa Washington. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Christine Washington; three sons, Denis Washington (Mary), Lonnie Washington (Margaret), and Daryl Washington; three grandsons, Roderick Washington, Brandon Washington, and Jared Washington; and four great-grandchildren, Myles, Amaya, Sidney, and Olivia Washington.

O.D. "took the room over" when he entered; he loved working in his flower garden; and he was active in his church as a young man in Vicksburg, Mississippi including being an usher. Most of all, O.D. was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and he will be missed by all who knew him.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, April 27, at 12:00 p.m. at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. Facial masks and social distancing will be required. Arrangements are under the care of Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA.
