Joseph M. Riley, Jr., 69, of Villas, NJ passed peacefully on July 7, 2019 at home surrounded by his family.
Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Margaret F. (nee Naddeo) and Joseph M. Riley, Sr.. Joseph was raised in Briarcliff and was a graduate of Msgr. Bonner High School Class of 1968.
Joseph was a decorated U.S. Army Veteran who served as a PFC-E3 during the Vietnam War from July 1969 to April 1971, when he was Honorably discharged with many commendations.
Following his discharge from the service, he went to work at the Philadelphia Naval Yard, before moving to Norfolk, VA where he worked at the Naval Facilities Engineering Command as an electrician. He had served as president of the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) Local 2 at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
After his retirement, he moved to Villas, NJ, where he spent his time on home remodeling projects and fishing in his leisure. Joe was a very generous man to his family, friends and even strangers in need.
Along with his parents, Mr. Riley is predeceased by his brother, Raymond Riley.
Joseph is survived by his siblings, Judith (the late William) Dyer, Diane (Jim) Lavin, David Riley. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends and fellow veterans.
