PEORIA - David Michael Parr Sr., age 72, of Montgomery, IL, formerly of Peoria, died on Saturday, March 20, 2021, in Naperville, IL.
He was born on August 19, 1948, in Peoria, IL, the son of the late Clarence and Phyllis nee Buck Parr.
Dave served his country honorably with the U.S. Navy as a hospital corpsman at Philadelphia Naval Hospital and at Camp Lejeune, NC. During history of duty with the Navy, a Naval Psychiatrist, along with Dave, established the first Drug Rehabilitation Program for Vietnam Veterans. He was employed at Caterpillar and then later at Mercy Center Hospital in security, prior to his retirement. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Joliet, IL. He loved gardening, reading non-fiction history books, woodworking and traveling. His grandchildren and family always came first.
Dave is survived by his wife, Connie L. (nee Pierson) Parr; a daughter, Jennifer (Tim) Taylor; son, David M. (Kristin) Parr Jr.; grandchildren, Michael Parr, Mackenzie Parr and Maegan Parr; sister, Kathy (Mark) DeDecker; sister-in-law, Paula (John) German; brother-in-law, Randy Pierson and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Laurie Henke and in-laws, Robert and Phyllis Pierson.
A gathering of family/friends will take place on Wednesday, March 31, 2021, from 4 to 8 p.m. During this time there will be a short prayer service and military honors will be rendered at 7:45 p.m. by the U.S. Navy at Dunn Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 1801 Douglas Road, Oswego, IL. Cremation has taken place.
