Brenda attended elementary school in Victoria, KS. The family moved to Horton, KS in May of 1975 where she soon met her high school sweetheart. Brenda graduated from Horton High School in 1979 and then she attended Northeast Kansas Vo-Tech in Atchison. She worked at Hiawatha Savings and Loan and later had a day care in her home. After this, she began her favorite job as a para educator at Horton Elementary School where she loved working with children and her beloved co-workers. Brenda married on September 4, 1982 at St. Leo's Catholic Church. They made their home in Horton, where they raised their three children.
Brenda enjoyed cooking, sewing, and attending and supporting events for her children and grandchildren. Brenda was known by her family and friends for her bubbly personality, beautiful smile, and infectious laugh.
Brenda was preceded in death by her father, Marvin Hammersmith. Survivors include her husband. Sons, and daughter , eight grandchildren. She is also survived by her mother, sisters, and her beloved nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A rosary will be recited at 6 PM. on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at the St. Leo's Catholic Church in Horton where the family will greet friends following the rosary until 8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at the St. Leo's Catholic Church. Celebrant will be Father Dan Gardner. Burial will follow at the St. Leo's Catholic Church Cemetery.
