Enfield, NH - William "Bill" J. Considine, Jr., 79, of Enfield, NH and Wilbraham, MA passed away peacefully on Friday, March 26, 2021 at his home on Crystal Lake surrounded by family and his dog, Jessie.

He was born in Fulton, IL, a town he dearly loved, to William J. Considine and Bernice Nickelsen Considine on June 21, 1941.

He graduated Fulton High School and attended Marquette University, where he met his dear wife, Claudia Simek Considine, whom he married in 1964.

He graduated from Western Illinois University, received his Master's degree from Illinois State University and his Doctorate from Indiana University.

He served his country in the United States Marine Corps Reserve.

Bill taught at the University of Illinois in the Department of Physical Education before moving to Wilbraham, MA in 1976.

He then began a 35-year career as a faculty member and administrator at Springfield College. He held appointments as Dean of the School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation, Professor of Physical Education and the Buxton Professor of Physical Education, an endowed chair. His administrative responsibilities included all facets of undergraduate and graduate programs in the Departments of Physical Education and Health Education, Exercise Science and Sport Studies, and Sport Management and Recreation; the campus wellness/fitness centers; the Intramural Program; and the United States Sports and Wellness Center for the Disabled. Past teaching activities included Doctoral Seminar in Physical Education, Seminar in Teaching Higher Education, and Archery. He retired as the Dean in 2007 and continued to teach until 2011. He also served in leadership positions with MAHPERD, AAHPERD and the International Relations Council, where he enjoyed connecting with many colleagues around the world. He truly represented the Springfield College Humanics philosophy of spirit, mind and body and Humanics in Action. In-between, he was part of the infamous racquetball group which played daily matches quite competitively.

Bill and Claudia enjoyed retirement at the Lake, where he fished, boated, did woodworking, walked the dog, and met cherished friends. The Lakehouse became the center of family gatherings and many happy memories.

Bill will be dearly missed by his wife, daughters Beth Roberts and Julie Tyson, sons-in-law Bill Roberts and Matt Tyson, grandchildren, Ben, Emily, Nate and Sam. He will also be missed by his sister, Mary Katherine Sanderson, brother-in-law, Irv, and their family.

The family is grateful for the excellent care Bill received at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center's Oncology Unit and Lake Sunapee Hospice.

A celebration of Bill's life will be held at the Lake this summer. Honoring his life-long dedication to health and wellness education and teaching, a scholarship will be established at Springfield College.

Donations may be sent to the Office of Development, Springfield College, 263 Alden Street, Springfield, MA 01109.
