Born May 17, 1949, in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late Grover Richard Moats and Arvilla Louise (Snyder) Moats.
Dennis was a veteran of the US Army serving during the Vietnam War as a Sergeant in the 101st Airborne.
He was employed with Jamison Door Company, Garden State Tanning for 29 years, and retired from Bowman Logistics. After retirement, Dennis worked with Trenton Rowles, "The Tireman."
He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and mushroom hunting. He was a regular at many local shooting matches.
Dennis attended Calvary Temple in Williamsport and was a member of the Western Maryland Sportsman Club, the American Legion Post 202 in Williamsport, and the Potomac River Bassmasters.
He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, F. Elaine (Charlton) Moats; a son, Dennis Moats, II (Sandra); two daughters, Stephanie Baker (Rusty), Diane Graham (Shawn); 5 sisters, June Cline, Gloria Bitner, Charlotte Hose, Mary Ann Landers (Buster), and Esther Brinton; 3 grandsons, Rusty Baker Jr. (Liz), Ryan Baker, and Tanner Graham; 2 granddaughters, Madison Graham and Shelby Moats; special aunt, Lavada "Susie" Moats; special nephew, Richard Moats Jr.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Polly Landis and Betty Hose; a brother, Richard Moats; and 4 brother in laws, Richard Cline, Marvin Hose, Moe Bitner, and Bob Hose.
Services will be held on Tuesday, March 30, 2021, at 1:30 pm at Donald Edwin Thompson Funeral Home, Inc., 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring, MD. The Rev. Bobby Robinson will officiate. Interment will follow at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown, MD with military honors.
The family will receive friends at Donald Edwin Thompson Funeral Home, Inc., 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring, MD on Monday evening from 6 to 8 pm. For the convenience of friends, you may visit the funeral home after noon.
