Alice "Nanny" Carter, 87, of Waynesboro passed away on Friday, October 23, 2009, at her residence. She was born January 27, 1922, in Nellysford, a daughter of the late William R. and Melinda Puckett Truslow. Mrs. Carter was a former member of Wintergreen Christian Church and was presently a member of Waynesboro Church of the Brethren. She was retired from Morton's Frozen Foods with 37 years of service. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wilson H. "Bill" Carter on September 20, 1988; a sister, Yyonne and her husband, Tommy Toms; and a grandson, Steve Carter. Survivors include two sons, Wayne Carter and his wife, Skip, of Waynesboro and Wilson I. Carter and his wife, Pat, of Fort Worth, Texas; two sisters, Mary Davis of Charlottesville and Annie Patrick of Lovingston; two brothers, Herbert Truslow and his wife, Polly, of Nellysford, Martin S. "Buddy" Truslow and his wife, Gracie, of Waynesboro; seven grandchildren, Terry Carter Breeden, John Carter Jr., Renee Carter Hall, Bobby Smith, Michelle Smith Holden, Paul Carter and Randy Carter; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by a special sister-in-law, Annie Wood. A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 27, 2009, at Wintergreen Christian Church Cemetery with Pastor Edward Carl officiating. At her request there will be no viewing or visitation at the funeral home. Friends may call at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday, October 26, 2009, to sign the guest register book. Memorial contributions may be made to the Waynesboro Church of the Brethren, 364 Bridge Avenue, Waynesboro, VA 22980 or the Waynesboro First Aid Crew, 201 West Broad Street, Waynesboro, VA 22980.
