Obituary:

John Willie Cross, Jr., 66, of Chattanooga, passed away on Wednesday, March 24, 2021, at his residence.

He was a 1972 graduate of Howard High School. He was a member of First Corinthians Baptist Church where he sang in the choir. John loved his grandchildren and going fishing.

He was preceded in death by his son, John Cross II; parents, John and Josephine Cross, Sr.; and grandmother, Vera Thornton.

Survivors include his son, Démonte Cross, Sr. of Chattanooga; daughters, Shaun (Travis, Sr.) Young of Atlanta, GA, Leonetta White, Miracle McLemore, and LaKesha (Aurelya Taylor) White, all of Chattanooga; thirteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Jesse (Joyce) Thornton of Wildwood, GA and Frankie Cross of Chattanooga; a host of other relatives and friends.

He will lie in state on Friday, April 2, at 10 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home with the family service to follow at 2 p.m. in the chapel with Pastor Gerald Penn as the eulogist.
