Honea Path - Kenneth Kay "Pop" Ashley, born June 25, 1922, entered the gates of Heaven on Sunday, January 17, 2021 at the age of 98, to join his beloved wife Kate Werner Ashley.

Pop was loved by everyone but especially his family: his children, Kenneth Kay "Kenny" Ashley, Jr. and his wife, Wanda; daughter, Karen Ashley and her best friend, Dee Davis who Pop so lovingly considered another daughter. His grandchildren, Clay Ashley (Megan), Kia Dungan (John), Taylor Fowler (Daniel), and Grayson Kelly (Andrea); great-grandchildren, EllaKate and Sadler Fowler, Jackson Ashley, Kai, Zane, and Bay Dungan, and Finley Kelly.

Pop was a member of the United States Air Force and served in WWII. He was a longtime member of Williamston First Baptist Church where he served in many capacities. He moved to The Maples assisted living facility in May 2016 and joined Honea Path First Baptist Church. Pop was a true servant of the Lord, his family, the church, and community. He is known for the brownies that he made and so graciously delivered to homes, schools, and businesses in our community with a big smile on his face. He loved to bring people joy and happiness and was so richly loved in return.

The family is planning a unique and special memorial service to celebrate his life at a date to be announced soon. Pop's favorite verse was Philippians 4:4, "Rejoice in the Lord always, and again I say rejoice". Pop lived this verse daily and is rejoicing with his Savior in Heaven.

The family asks that you keep them in your prayers as they navigate life without their beloved Pop. If you would like to make a donation in his memory, please consider doing so to The Maples at Austin Place, 224 Wildwood Drive, Honea Path, SC 29654. The staff there have been such a big part in caring for him and he and the family love them all dearly. Memorials may also be made to Honea Path First Baptist Church, 100 South Main Street, Honea Path, SC 29654.

We have been overwhelmed with love, cards, food, calls and texts over the past week since our Pop went to be with Jesus. We can't thank everyone enough for the prayers and love you've shown us.

We have decided to have a very unique and special celebration of life to honor Pop, Saturday, January 30th at 2:00 at Pop's old home place. The address is 121 Jim Buddy Road, Honea Path, SC 29654. This service will be in a field overlooking where Pop grew up. We will have a limited number of chairs. If you would like to bring your own chair and a blanket, you are welcome to. We feel that we will have a large crowd and that having the service outside is the safest way to keep everyone as safe as possible from the virus. We ask that you sit with your family and use your best judgement in social distancing or wear a mask if that makes you most comfortable. We were so blessed that Pop didn't suffer from this virus very long and we don't want anyone else to have to suffer either. We look forward to seeing you as we celebrate our precious Pop!
