Mr. Colon Linwood Benson, 72, of Wade, passed away Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at Bethesda Healthcare in Eastover. Mr. Benson was born September 22, 1948 in Harnett County to the late Leon and Velma Massengill Benson.
Mr. Benson was a 1968 graduate of Dunn High School and a 1973 graduate of Campbell College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. He taught 4th grade at District 7 for 35 years and served 35 years in the Army Reserves and N.C. National Guard, retiring as a Master Sergeant. He was a member of the American Legion and a member of Antioch Baptist Church.
A funeral service will be held 3 p.m., Saturday, March 27, 2021 at Antioch Baptist Church in Falcon, with Rev. Brian Dawson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors.
Mr. Benson is survived by his wife of 46 years, Wanda Jo Benson; daughter, Sarah Beth Dawson & husband Brian of Wade; son, Justin Cole Benson of Stedman and friend Jennifer Wilkes and her son, Lucas; sisters and brothers in law, Diane & Wayne Dorman, and Keith & Sherry Matthews; grandchildren, Aidan & Allie Dawson; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at 2 p.m., one hour prior to the service at Antioch Baptist Church in Falcon.
