Jan C. Young, 56, of Greenville, Ill., born Aug. 19, 1948, in Belleville, Ill., died Sunday, Sept. 5, 2004, at Edward A. Utlaut Memorial Hospital, Greenville, Ill.
Mr. Young grew up in Belleville and graduated from Belleville Althoff Catholic High School. He received a bachelor's degree from Benedictine College in Atchison Kan., and a masters degree from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, Ill. He taught briefly at Mater Dei High School and had also been a regular substitute teacher for the East St. Louis School District. He started at Hillsboro High School in 1971 and retired at the end of the 2002-2003 school year. He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia, nee Toennies, Young of Greenville, Ill., whom he married Sept. 28, 1974, in Belleville, Ill.; his parents, John and Anne, nee Reifschneider, Young of Belleville, Ill.; a son, John Young of Belleville, Ill.; a daughter, Elizabeth Young of Chicago, Ill.; three brothers, Eric Young of St. Louis, Mo., Scott Young of Millstadt, Ill., and Mark Young of Belleville, Ill.; and a sister, Laurel Young of Belleville, Ill.
Memorials may be made to St. Lawrence Church Building Fund or The Comets Sports Boosters. Visitation: Friends may call after 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept 8, 2004, at Young Funeral Home, Greenville, Ill. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Funeral: Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Greenville, Ill., with the Rev. Vic Kaltenbach officiating.
Burial will be in St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery, Greenville, Ill.
