David Trujillo, 17, 712 Powell Court, was killed instantly at 8:35 pm Saturday when a car in which he was a passenger was struck by a Union Pacific freight train at the Lenwood crossing five miles west of Barstow.
The Rosary was recited at the O'Donnell Funeral Chapel Tuesday evening. A requiem mass as celebrated in St. Joseph's Catholic Church Wednesday morning and interment was made in Mt View Cemetery.
The Barstow youth is survived by his parents, Mr and Mrs David M Trujillo; three sisters, Mrs. Ella Escajeda, and Nancy and Linda Trujillo; and two brothers, Floyd and Louie. All live in Barstow.
The car in which young Trujillo was traveling was driven by Leonardo Padilla, 19, 708 Powell Court. The train was eastbound and Padilla's vehicle, which was going south, apparently pulled directly into the path of the freight. California Highway Patrol Sgt. Walter P Terry and officer Fred Bosworth said the UP engine struck the rear of the car.
Deputy Coroner P H Evans said the youth died as the result of severe head and chest injuries.
Padilla suffered only minor injuries. He was treated at the Barstow hospital and was released. His brother, Morris, 17, who was thrown from the vehicle was not hurt.
