Joyce Ruth Hale, 84, of McAlester, Oklahoma passed away Thursday, March 25, 2021 at her home surrounded by family and childhood friend Joyce Duran.
Joyce was born November 24, 1936 in McAlester as the only child of John M. Williams and Ruth H. (Terry) Williams.
Joyce graduated McAlester High School in 1954. She earned her Bachelor and Master's Degrees, in education, from Southeastern Oklahoma University. She married Charlie Hale on February 15, 1958. Joyce retired from Gallup, NM Public Schools and returned to McAlester where she continued to teach.
Joyce loved music and was an avid piano player. She used her gift to entertain at local nursing homes, sharing songs and devotionals with residents. She also played piano for her Sunday School at First Baptist Church and at the Stipe Center.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Charlie Hale, of the home, her son, Charles Hale Jr. of Jacksonville, Arkansas; her daughter, Deborah Stone and husband, Chris of McAlester; five grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. The family will greet friends Monday, March 29, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Chaney Harkins Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at the First Baptist Church of McAlester. The burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, McAlester.
