EIGHTY-ONE YEARS OLD
Eighty-one years ago Sunday a little babe was born. This babe grew to womanhood, married, raised a family and experienced the various vicissitudes incident to this life.

This good lady, Mrs. Margaret Cave, generally known as "Grandma" Cave, was yesterday reminded of the fact that it was her natal day upon returning from church to her home at 910 South Main, by seeing a number of friends walk in and congratulate her upon her long life and the occasion upon which they were assembled, and wishing her many years yet to bless those present with her presence.

In addition to this her daughter, Mrs. S. C. Scovell, and her grandchildren, had prepared an elegant dinner in her honor, to which all did ample justice, after which a season of social enjoyment was experienced.

A peculiar incident of the gathering Sunday was the fact that of those present Grandma Cave was born November 6, Grandma Blackman May 14, and Grandma Jones May 9—all in the year 1823. Four generations of the Cave descendants were represented in the party.

GRANDMA CAVE FALLS ASLEEP
The Funeral Will Take Place at the First Christian Church Tuesday Morning

Grandma Cave, as she is familiarly known to the people of Galena, fell asleep in death at 8 o'clock this morning after a prolonged illness that lasted over a period of eight months.

Her death was due to old age, hastened by sciatic rheumatism, with which she was afflicted so as to be confined to her bed since last November. The deceased was 86 years of age.

Margaret Eshelman Cave was born at Lancaster, Pa., Nov. 6, 1821; resided there until 12 years of age when the family moved to Manchester, O.

When she was 16 they moved to Memphis, Mo., where she joined the United Christian Disciple church, of which she remained a devoted member up to the hour of her death.
At Memphis on March 5. 1848 she was married to Wm. Cave, who she survived ten years, the latter having died in Galena on Dec. 16, 1897.

She and her husband were earnest supporters of the Christian church and it was partly through their efforts that the first Christian church was started in Galena, the same being now located in the new modern edifice at Tenth and Main streets.

Mrs. Cave was descended from the Holland dutch, her grandparents coming from the old country and with others settling in and near Lancaster, O.
After their marriage Mrs. and Mrs. Cave moved to Litchfield, Ill., and from there to Galena in March of the year 1879.

Grandma Cave has, by her straight forward Christian life, endeared herself to all who know her and her loss will be keenly felt in this community.

Deceased is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Sarah C. Scovell, with whom she has been making her home, at 910 South Main street; one son, John Cave, and a sister, Mrs. Sarah Dunn, of Unity, Ore., who is 92 years old; also one grandchild, Mrs. Gillian Sanders, whom Mrs. Cave raised. Five other grand-children and ten grand-children survive.

The funeral will take place at the First Christian church at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Evangelist J. W. Baker, formerly of Galena, now of Neosho, Mo, assisted by Rev. R. H. Love. According to the request of the deceased, Mrs. G. H. Walser of Liberal, Mo., will sing "Galilee"; W. A. Pepper will sing "Tell Mother I'll Be There" and the choir will render two selections, "When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder", and "Waiting and Watching".
The pall-bearers were also selected by the deceased and will be as follows: Messrs. C. H. Phebus, Joseph Wallace, L. J. Haines, O. W. Sparks, I. E. Shafer and John Thompson.

The burial will take place at the city cemetery.
