The Death Angel Enters Another
Galena Home and Claims One
of Galena's Most Beloved Citizens

Mrs. H.A. Bender
, wife of Dr. H.A. Bender, passed into eternal rest this morning at 4 o'clock after a week's illness, death being due to pneumonia. Mrs. Bender had a severe cold for several weeks but was otherwise apparently in her usual health until Thursday of last week when she became so ill that a physician was called but up until Wednesday danger was not apprehended but that morning the weakened condition of the heart evidenced the fact her recovery was very uncertain and little hope had been entertained.

Mrs. Bender was 68 years of age. She was born in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa.

Mrs. Bender was one of the most charitable and conscientious women of our acquaintance. She was a devout member of the Methodist Episcopal Church with which denomination she was connected for years, and she never wavered in her faith or duty, being useful in every department of her church work. Her life was a busy active one, filled with good deeds, well done.

Her death brings great sorrow to her family and is a distinct loss to the community. She was an active and efficient worker on the Library board, of which she was treasurer; also a member of the orders of Eastern Star and Sons and Daughters of Justice.

Besides her husband, she is survived by two daughters and one son - Mrs. Henry Campbell, of Kansas City; Mrs. R.A. Coles and Jesse Bender, who reside in Galena; also one sister, four brothers and six grandchildren.

The Times wishes to join the many friends in extending sympathy to the grief stricken family.

No funeral arrangements have yet been made.

Esteemed Citizen

Funeral services for Mrs. Leanna Bender, wife of Dr. H. A. Bender, who died Friday morning at 4 o'clock after a week's illness with pneumonia, were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Methodist Episcopal church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. O. C. Bronston, who paid a high tribute to her memory as a woman who met all the obligations of life in a creditable manner.

A large concourse of friends ware (sic) present to pay their last tribute of respect to Mrs. Bender thus giving evidence of the hold she had obtained upon the esteem and friendship of the community.

The floral offerings were exceedingly beautiful and numerous.

The body lay in state Sunday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the family residence, 903 Joplin street.

Interment was made in the Galena cemetery.
