British Statesman. He served in the British Army during World War I, rising to Lieutenant in the Royal Artillery. A member of the Labour Party, he twice served as a Member of Parliament for Bishop Auckland (1929 to 1931 and 1935 to 1959), and as Chancellor of the Exchequer from 1045 to 1947 during the administration of Prime Minister Clement Atlee. In 1960 he was made a life peer as Baron Dalton. He was cremated as Golders Green Crematorium.
