Melissa Jean "Missy" Atkins, age 52 of North Tazewell, VA passed away Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at Bristol Regional Medical Center in Bristol, TN. Born October 10, 1968 in Welch, WV, she was a daughter of the late William and Loretta Ray Mullins. Missy was a graduate of Big Creek High School – "Forever An Owl" and later earned her Associate Degree at Brown Mackie College. She has served as Children's Pastor for over twenty seven years, fifteen of those years serving at Destiny Outreach Ministries. She loved puppet ministry, enjoyed singing, and was so well known for the biggest vacation bible school. She simply loved everyone, but her greatest love was her grandchildren and she was all about family for that was her greatest ministry. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Mullins; sisters, Theresa Mullins and Pam Spicer.
She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Dwayne Atkins; sons, Luke Atkins and wife, Chelsea of Tazewell, VA and Landon Atkins of the home; daughter, Leslee Mullins and husband, Lance of Tazewell, VA; sisters, Donna Robinson and husband, Keith of Coalwood, WV and Karla Mullins Hamilton of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren, Samuel and Nora Sawyer, Emilia Atkins, Maggee and Noah Mullins, and Maggee's sister, Halle Sample; a host of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 1-2 PM Saturday, March 27, 2021 at Peery & St.Clair Funeral Home in Tazewell, VA where funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM with Pastors Steve Branch and Lamar Duff officiating.
