Graveside services will be at 10:00am Monday at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. The Reverend W.W. Worley will officiate.
Mr. Smith was born March 12, 1922 in Mertzon, Texas to Oneita Tankersley and Fred G. Smith.
He married Alta Fay Cooper of Mexia, Texas on July 10, 1948 in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Owen owned and operated S & S Pawn Shop and Smith Gun Shop in San Angelo and he ranched near Mertzon.
Owen was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army. Owen was a boxer during his time in the service and he continued later as a professional and he also promoted the sport through the Golden Gloves Association.
Owen worked in the oilfields of West Texas for several years.
He was a member of Park Heights Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Alta; one son, Jesse Roy Smith and wife Connie; daughter, Oneita Fay Burgess and husband Mark; one brother, Arthur W. Smith and wife Carmelita; one sister, Dorothy Bugby; and five grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be J.T. Henson, Bob Kemper, James (Skipper) Pierce, Billy Tankersley, Max Tankersley and Carl Trantham.
