Funeral Services will be 2:00PM Thursday, March 25, 2021 at Benson Grove Baptist Church, Benson. Officiating will be Dr. Billy Cashwell. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Ricky was born in Harnett County on July 17, 1949 to the late Harvey Ellis and Ruth Hardison Pope. He was preceded in death by his brothers, William (Billy) and Bonnie Pope.
He worked with Duke Progress Energy for 35 years and four days after retiring, he went to work with E & R and T & D Solutions for 12 years. Other than spending time with his grandchildren and being an avid gardener, there was nothing he loved more than working a storm or climbing a pole to restore someone's electricity. Ricky was a US Army veteran, serving two tours in the Vietnam War from 1967-1970. During his service, he received many medals, including two Purple Hearts. He was dedicated to serving his country. The most important thing to Ricky was his love of God and knowing that when he passed peacefully, he was going to his heavenly home.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jean Ennis Pope; son, Christopher Pope of Raleigh; daughter, Leslie Pope Perry and her husband, Adam of Clayton; triplet grandchildren; Aiden, Austin, and Autumn; sister, Brenda Clark; brother, Benny Pope and his wife, Pam; and many nieces and nephews.
The Pope Family will receive friends from 12:45PM to 1:45PM prior to the funeral service on Thursday in the church fellowship hall and other times at the home.
