She was born in New Vienna, Ohio to Kathryn (Oates) Dunlap and Lloyd Dunlap. Betty grew up in Springport and graduated from Mt. Summit High School. She married Ray Smith on July 6, 1943 in Portland, Oregon. Betty was a homemaker, enjoyed her family, was fiercely independent and had a true love of dogs.
Betty is survived by her son, Monty R. (wife, Shirley) Smith of New Castle; two granddaughters, Jessica (husband, Todd) Cline of Fishers, Indiana and Amanda (husband, Daniel) Shirley of Bloomington, Indiana; three great-grandchildren, Joshua Cline of Fishers, Hannah and Audrey Shirley, both of Bloomington. Betty is also survived by children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren from her second marriage.
Betty was preceded in death by her first husband, Ray Smith and her second husband, Ray Burgess; a sister, Margaret Carter and a brother, Phillip Dunlap.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 13, 2021 at Woodlawn Cemetery in Springport, Indiana with Pastor John Garrett officiating.
