Donald George Chambers, 89, of Ollie, died March 22, 2021 after a short illness.

Don was born April 13, 1931 to Francis Lee and Dora (Koehler) Chambers.

Don was such a pleasant fellow and literally whistled while he walked. He enjoyed his position as head custodian at Pekin Schools and left fond memories for all who worked with him or rode his school bus. He was a ray of sunshine. "You Are My Sunshine" became one of his favorite songs. Don loved his garden and was a huge fan of his sandwich made of a "Big Boy" tomato and bacon! He had great fun with fishing, golf, woodworking, mushroom hunting and an occasional trip to the casino. Attending sporting events for his kids, grandkids and great grandkids was a particular favorite for him and became such a treasured experience for family and friends. Don enjoyed sitting on the porch watching the squirrels play and the birds flutter from birdhouses (that he made) to feeder. He especially enjoyed his wrens and hummingbirds. In the last few years Don took almost daily rides to Lake Darling to count the deer and report on any eagles or pheasants he saw along the way.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 40 years, Pat Chambers, his parents Lee and Dora (Koehler) Chambers, three brothers, and one sister.

Don is survived by his children, Dianna (Don) Hill of O'Fallon, MO, Bob (Bonnie) Chambers of Packwood, IA, John (Pam) Chambers of Independence, IA, Richard Chambers of Fairfield, IA, Brett (Linette) Page of Kirksville, MO, Christy Page of Bloomington, IN and Trisha (Ed) Page Hamm of West Burlington, IA. Also survived by 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

A private family service will be planned in the future.
