LISA RAY GEORGE-COX
AGE 57 YEARS

Lisa Ray George-Cox, of Lexington, MA, a devoted mother, beloved educator and coach, in the Lexington Public School system, passed peacefully in her sleep at Care Dimensions Hospice Home in Lincoln, MA on Tuesday, March 9th at 12:45a, after a year and a half battle with cancer (sarcoma).

Lisa was born and raised in Roxbury, MA, and the oldest of two children, born to Joseph Harker George and Barbara Elizabeth George. Lisa was a 1981 graduate of Lexington High School (LHS), received her undergraduate degree from Syracuse University, and her graduate degree from California State University LA. She was a three-time Boston Globe All-Scholastic track athlete at LHS, and a proud member of the Syracuse Orange Women's inaugural track & field team, from 1981-85, where she distinguished herself as a Big-East All-Star. Lisa was later an honored inductee of the inaugural class of the LHS Athletic Hall of Fame.

Lisa went on to become a coach at her high school alma mater, working with both the girls and boys indoor and outdoor runners for several years. Last year, she was awarded the Bill O'Connor Courage & Humanitarian Award by the Massachusetts State Track Coaches Association (MSTCA), for her relentless drive to coach through the day-to-day adversity of fighting cancer. As impactful as she was as a track athlete and coach, Lisa had a special passion for working with children with learning differences. She was a staunch advocate for student centered learning, before it was fashionable, and a gifted teacher, who over the course of her 30 year career, transformed the lives of students and those families she partnered with.

Lisa is survived by her daughter Alexandra, son CJ, mother Barbara, brother Derek, uncle Butch, aunt Geaunne, cousin Leslie, loving nieces and nephews, an extended family of beautiful friends and angels, and long time partner, Cecil.
