Marion Council “Red” Powell, age 82 of Laurinburg passed away Sunday, March 21, 2021.

Red was born September 26, 1938 in Columbus County, son of the late Oscar Powell and Ada Faulk Powell.

He was a Veteran who proudly served in the United States Air Force. He then retired after serving our country for many years from the Army National Guard. Red later retired, after years of service, as an electrician with West Point Stevens. He was a member of McColl Pentecostal Fire Baptized Holiness Church. He enjoyed watching old Westerns and was an avid UNC Tarheels fan. Red was well known for his love of sharing candy with everyone he came in contact, making each one smile. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who will truly be missed.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, L J Powell and sister, Annie Ruth Snead.

He is survived by his son, Robert Glenn Powell of Laurinburg; daughter, Gina Gay Powell Gibson (John) of Spring Lake; brother, Richard Powell; four grandchildren, including a special granddaughter, Miranda Gibson, seven great grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.

A Graveside service with military honors will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 25, 2021 in Woodville Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until Noon at Richard Boles Funeral Service.
