Bill served in the US Marine Corps Reserves from 1955-1957 and then joined the Army in 1957 and served in the Army Reserves until 1963. He attended OU and was a big OU fan as well as a NASCAR fan.
While in high school, Bill worked for the Oklahoma and Times and was a carrier for 4 years. He went to work for the US Postal Service in 1959 and served as a letter carrier for over 44 years when he had to retire in 2003 because of medical problems. Bill was a lifetime member of the National Association of Letter Carriers.
Bill accepted the Jesus as his Lord and Savior as a child. He was a member of Capitol Hill Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and helped in AWANA’s and VBS. Bill enjoyed being a baseball coach for his boys, cooking, and being the weather advisor for the entire family. He loved taking care of his family. He always filled Fran’s gas tank for her, always waved from the porch until the family was out of sight, and would work extra jobs to support his family.
It has been said by several people, that Bill was the sweetest, most compassionate, caring man you would ever meet. Bill himself said, “I love my darling wife, Fran, my children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. My goal was that their lives would be happy.”
The family would like to especially thank all of the neighbors in their cul-de-sac for all of the love and care they have given over the last several months. Also, Tender Care Hospice for their care and support.
Bill is survived by her loving children, Sherri Stull and husband Mark, David Mathews and wife Genea and Larry Mathews and wife Desiree; 11 grandchildren, Chris Stull and wife Mandy, Jennifer May and husband Lance, Chad Stull and wife Jenny, Shawn Stull, Shawn Mathews and wife Jennifer, Stacie Brown and husband Tracy, Niki Welch and husband Steven, Carmen Head and husband Matthew, Jason Mathews Darci Gates and husband Hunter and Timothy Mathews; and 19 great grandchildren.
