Martha "Lois" Smith Phillips, 89, passed away on Sunday, March 21, 2021 at her home. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Fall Creek Baptist Church, in Bennett, with Rev. George Townsend and Pastor Edwin Moore presiding. The viewing room at Joyce-Brady Chapel will be open on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 from 1:00 pm-5:00 pm for those wishing to pay their respects. Attendees are asked to wear a mask and practice social distancing.

Lois was born in Chatham County on June 5, 1931 to Cora Lou Powers Smith and Isaac Talmadge Smith. She was a member of Fall Creek Baptist Church, where she played the piano and organ for 70 years. She worked for many years at A.J. Schnierson and Sons. Lois enjoyed working in her yard and garden. She and Herman spent many hours taking their dog, Ginger, for rides around the block. She loved her family dearly and never missed a chance to attend the ball games of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Lois was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Wade Herman Phillips; son, Gerry Phillips; grandchildren, Gregory A. Phillips, Crystal L. Phillips and Jason Baldwin; son-in-law, Earl Baldwin and sisters, Dorothy Smith Beal and Mary Lou Smith Hayes.

She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Phillips Baldwin, of Goldston; daughter-in-law, Sandy Phillips, of Bennett; granddaughters, Heather Doucette (Arthur), and Tina Morgan (Chad); great-grandchildren, Gemma, Kenzie Beth, Aidan, Cameron, Hadley Grace, and Carson; sister, Carol Purvis, of Bennett, numerous nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the The Crystal L. Phillips Memorial Scholarship, C/O Chatham County Schools. POB 128 Pittsboro NC 27312.
