He was an American pioneer film actor, director and screenwriter whose career began near the dawn of the silent film era. The brother of John and Thomas H. Ince (producer/director), he started his career with Vitagraph playing and directing and was the first to play Abraham Lincoln in films. As a director he worked with Columbia, Selznick, RKO Radio, Universal, Warner Bros., First National-British and Monogram pictures. He was killed in an automobile accident when his car struck an iron railing.
