The Legacy of Oscar “Big O” Turner, Sr. On this day of February 6, 2021, we celebrate the life of Oscar Turner, Sr., 82, of Dallas, TX. Born on May 17, 1938 to the parentage of Alma Turner, Sr. and Allie Z. Turner. He received his formal education in DISD, where he attended Booker T. Washington. From there, he went on to work at RC Cola as a night manager. He then went to work at the City of Carrollton as a manager, where he retired.

In his leisure, Oscar enjoyed fishing, golfing, spending time with family, grilling, and lastly but most importantly, talking a lot of trash. He was a caring and loving man who did not meet a stranger. He led the example of how a man should care for and love his family. He was a role model to many.

On July 5, 1980, he married the love of his life, Judith Ann Lewis. They were married for 40 years. He was the proud father to five children: Michael Ross (Deborah Harrington), Veronique Turner (Johnnie Chattmon), LaTara Hawkins (Cornilus), Shawnequa Turner (Christopher Hawkins) and Oscar Turner Jr.

Oscar and Judith joined Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a member until his passing. Oscar Turner Sr. leaves behind to cherish in his memory two sisters and two brothers: Eva Whitehead, Faye Hubbard, Bishop Alma R. T. Turner Jr. (the late Pauline), Nathaniel Turner; fifteen grandchildren: DeAngela, Quatavia, Deja, Kyarra, Saaniyah, Amaya, Javyri, Jayden, Cambria, Christian, Kevin Jr., Caden, Ariyana, Amyni, Caybron; and three great-grandchildren: Kylen, Kaniya, Malaysia. He also had a niece whom he considered a daughter (LaShon Hurd), and a host of other nieces, nephews, family, and friends who will all miss him dearly.

Preceding him in death: Alma R.T. Turner Sr. (father), Allie Z. Turner (mother), Mary Smith (sister), Billy Turner (brother), and Willie Pearl Jackson (sister).
