Graveside funeral services for Robert L, “Bob” Greer will be at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, March 26, 2021 at St. John Catholic Cemetery, Deville, Louisiana, where well-earned Military Honors will be rendered. Arrangements entrusted to Gallagher Funeral Home and Crematory, Ball, Louisiana.
Visitation for Mr. Greer will be on Friday, March 26, 2021 from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. at Gallagher Funeral Home, Ball, Louisiana.
Robert “Bob” L. Greer, born February 7, 1936, entered eternal rest on March 19, 2021 at his residence in Pineville, Louisiana surrounded by his loving family. Bob was a proud Retired Gunnery Sargent USMC, serving, from 1954-73, including three tours in Vietnam, where “There are no atheists in the fox holes,” and a posting as NCOIC at the US Embassy in Ottawa, Canada, where he and his then-wife Carol Stewart adopted two children Robert Greer and Suzanne “Suzie” Baker.
He loved to fish, hunt, grow gardens, and he constructed more decks than we can count. His eyeglasses and 8 Track collections are extensive, and he willed his couch to the Smithsonian, though they have not returned our calls.
When he was an 18-year-old Marine in Burma, a fortune-teller predicted he would live to 82 plus 2. He lived to 85, so we will be leaving that fortune teller a bad Yelp Review.
He will be greeted in heaven by his mother, Margaret A Beaubouef and father, Richard E Greer, many aunts, uncles, nephews, and fellow brothers in arms. Those of us left to feel his absence are his aforementioned son and daughter, her husband Andy and their children, David and Kate Baker; his sister Helen Spicer and her husband Ben Spicer, his sister Roberta A. McCabe; and his
brothers, Richard E. Greer, Jr., and Daniel R. Greer.
In accordance with COVID protocol, the family ask that mask be worn for the visitation. Friends may call the funeral home at 318-640-1375 or post messages of condolence for the Greer family by visiting www.gallagherfh.com.
