Ethel B. Anderson, 98 of Lisbon passed away on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at Parkside Lutheran Home, Lisbon, North Dakota.

Ethel Bernice (Devitt) Anderson, Lisbon ND, was born on July 6, 1922, to James and Wilhemina “Minnie” (Hock) Devitt. Ethel attended rural schools in the Fort Ransom and Lisbon area for the first 6 grades, and then attended the Lisbon school system, graduating from Lisbon High School in 1940. Ethel moved to and lived in Minneapolis, MN for the next four years. She returned to Lisbon in 1944 when her father started an ice cream and newspaper store.

Ethel married Edmund “Eb” Anderson at the Trinity Lutheran parsonage on April 12, 1946. They lived on their farm 4 miles west of Lisbon next to Eb’s brother and Ethel’s sister, Shorty and Elaine Anderson, for 55 years. They sold their farm and moved into Lisbon in late 2001. They celebrated 60 years of marriage together.

Though Ethel and Eb did not have children, she was constantly loving, hosting, feeding, caring for (and often correcting) numerous nieces and nephews. Ethel was the consummate farm wife and helper to Eb as they raised chickens, pigs, cattle, and bottle lambs together on their grain farm.

Ethel is survived by sisters-in-law Dolores (Jim) Devitt, Omaha, NE and Ann (Raymond) Devitt, Buffalo, MN and numerous nieces and nephews, and long-time special friend of the family, George Holt.

She was preceded in death by her parents Jim and Minnie Devitt, her sisters Christine (Harvey) Jensen and Elaine (Ervin “Shorty”) Anderson; and brothers Jim Devitt, Laurence (Mary Ellen) Devitt, Mike (Delores) Devitt, and Raymond Devitt; and nephew, Tim Jensen.
