Marcella Davis
April 3, 1931 - March 18, 2021

Marcella Caroline (Petermann) Davis, age 89, passed away on Thursday, March 18, 2021 in San Antonio, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, James P. Davis, her parents Ernst F. and Minnie Petermann, her two brothers and sister, and great grandson, Jack Theodore Brogan.

She is survived by 3 daughters, Patricia Davis Reynolds (Derek), Mary Ann Davis Brogan (John A.) and Susan Margaret Davis Guinn (Gammon), 8 grandchildren, Laura Christine McMullen (Shawn), Ryan Scott Connor (Kim), Patricia S. Nelle (Ryan), David M. Brogan (Jennifer), Katherine S. Cermin (Aaron Storey), Gammon David Guinn III (Shannon), Nick Guinn (Kristen), Lindsay Davis Guinn-Jones (Anjelica); 16 great grandchildren, Kelli, Travis, Cole, Case, Karlie, Brandon, Rachel, Calum, James, Liam, Reagan, Jacob Logan, Aiden, Joy, Evy, and Oli; 2 great-great grandchildren, Kai and Koa, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Marcella “Peggy” Davis was born April 3, 1931 in Johnson City, Texas, the youngest of four children. Her favorite childhood pastime was climbing the majestic heritage oak in her back yard; until her death she never failed to notice a “good climbing tree.”

As a young bride, she followed her husband’s Highway Patrol career to north Texas, hundreds of miles from her home in the Texas Hill Country, family, and friends, with her newborn baby to an unfamiliar town. She relied on her Christian values, faith, and determination to establish an unwavering moral compass to guide her and to nurture her family. Peggy was determined to include her family in every aspect of her life, thereby setting the foundation for generations of family loyalty and values.

Peggy worked as a key punch operator [cutting technology of the day] for Alamo Iron Works, USAA, then as Registrar for John Jay High School. After raising their children, she accompanied her civilian husband for a three-year tour in Bicester, England. During that time, she traveled extensively throughout the United Kingdom, Europe, and Russia. Upon returning to the States she resumed her career as a bookkeeper for a large property management company.

She was a lifelong member of Adah Chapter #49, OES and San Antonio Assembly No. 159, Social Order of the Beauceant. Throughout her 89 years, Peggy devoted herself in service to others, to include volunteering at her daughters’ schools and service activities, as well as years helping others at Christian Assistance Ministry.

She was a member of Shearer Hills Baptist Church, but because of proximity to her home in recent years attended the Eugene Slater Bible Study Class at the University United Methodist Church where she valued her many friendships.

Peggy passed away surrounded by her family. She will be missed.
