Mary Hussey Hunt

Mary was a namesake for Mary Hussey Hunt, her mother's maternal aunt and the wife of Elisha Hunt.

Molly, as Mary was called by friends and family alike, lived with her family on Water Street, a few blocks from Hunt's store on Market Street where "Aunt Mary", "Uncle Elisha" and their son Emmor worked and lived.

In 1835, Mary and her orphan siblings were removed by their aunt, Rachel (Hunt) Roberts (ID: 25897762), to Moorestown where they lived with "Uncle Elisha" and "Aunt Mary" on their 82-acre farm that sat on Camden Avenue.

Moorestown and Chester Monthly Meeting Minutes for December 15, 1835:
"A certificate was received from Redstone mo. meeting of friends dated 2nd of 12th mo. [1835] on behalf of Mary, Elisha and Mordicai M. Hunt minor children of Caleb and Rhoda M. Hunt deceased, which was read and accepted."

Mary entered Westtown School during May of 1836.

Mary Hussey Hunt's diary:

"Aunt Edith [sister of Mary's mother] & children spent the day here. I feel sad and lonely after parting with her. I love her much and she reminds me very forcibly of my mother, which brings melancholy pleasure to view. Oh if my mother had been permitted to live how happy I would be . . ." [1.]

"3rd Mo 18th" [1851] "... our cousin N Hunt's Wife from the West was with us, she left us on 3rd day morning" [1.]

"5th Mo 2nd" [1851] "... our cousins Nathan Hunt and Wife came the latter is with us yet..." [1.]

[6th Mo] "2nd" [1851] "C Hunt came up this evening and we have talking about taking uncle likeness which is a very common affair, ..." [1.]

[11th Mo] "15th" [1851] " A rainy stormy day 22 years this day since my mother's death a loss to me never to be repaired . . ." "but often very often have I longed for her tender care, council and advice . . ." [1.]
