Born in Providence, he was the son of the late David K. and Viola (Bolow) Henderson.
Michael served his country during the Vietnam War as a member of the United States Coast Guard.
After his discharge from active duty, he graduated from Bryant University and then earned an M.B.A. from Providence College. Michael spent most of his career in transportation and operations.
Michael was a communicant of St. Peter’s Church, a treasurer and lifetime member of the Vietnam Veterans of America, and was actively involved in Warwick Junior Hockey and West Bay Islanders.
Michael was a proud father of David M. and his wife Cristen A. Henderson of Chepachet, RI and Ryan P. and his wife Hailey E. Henderson of West Palm Beach, FL. He was the grandfather of two adored grandchildren, Matthew and Joshua. He is survived by his two sisters, Judy Arruda (and her late husband August) of Bristol, RI and Jane Balfour (and her husband David) of Ft. Myers, FL. He also leaves behind the Pearson family who provided love and support.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at the Urquhart-Murphy Funeral Home, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Warwick. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at at St. Peter’s Church, 350 Fair Street, Warwick, RI 02888. A private interment with full military honors followed at RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Rhode Island Community Food Bank, 200 Niantic Avenue, Providence, RI 02907.
