OBITUARIES
HELEN L. HURD
Helen Louise Hurd, 85, of La Grande, died Tuesday, July 3, at Grande Ronde Hospital. A service will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at Daniels Valley Funeral Chapel. Pastor Frank Wiens of the La Grande First Baptist Church will officiate. Committal and burial will follow at Island City Cemetery, Union County, Oregon, Island City, Union County, Oregon. Mrs. Hurd was born March 4, 1905, in Cambridge, Ohio to William S. and Rosa Marie (Bragg) Wendell. On April 21, 1924, she married Charles Dallas Hurd in Greensburg, Ohio. The couple came to La Grande from Salem in April 1988. Mr. Hurd died Sept. 25, 1988. Mrs. Hurd enjoyed oil painting, sewing, bowling and flower gardening. Survivors include daughters Marjorie Thompson of Bakersfield, Calif., Eleanor Wilson of La Grande, Donna Brown of La Grande, and Barbara Worth of Seattle; sisters Dorotha Hamilton of East Canton, Ohio, Sarah Rhoades of East Canton, and Mae Isabell Eliott of Akron, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives. A grandson, two brothers and three sisters died earlier. Daniels Valley Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
