Born in Tippah County, Mississippi in 1843. Served in the Civil War. In 1867, married Matilda Claretta Childers. Matilda married John McElwain in 1860; however he died during the Civil War, likely at Bardstown, Kentucky in late 1862. They had no known children. At some point between the census in 1880 and 1900 (there was no census in 1890) the family relocated to Tennessee. Matilda died of congestion in 1909 and William died in 1920.
