Christopher Powers, age 55, of Ankeny, Iowa passed away at Unity Point Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines on Tuesday, March 16, 2021. The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday March 21, 2021 at the Ankeny Funeral Home. A celebration of his life will be at Lutheran Church of Hope in Ankeny on Monday, March 22 at 11 a.m. with burial to follow at Ankeny Memorial Gardens.

Christopher was born in New Orleans on November 25, 1965. He graduated from De La Salle High School and received a bachelor’s degree from the University of New Orleans. His father, Carl Powers, passed away when Christopher was four. His mother, Suzette Lecourt Powers, raised her sons as a single mom while earning a bachelor’s degree and Law degree from Loyola University. In 1985, Brian LaCour married Suzette and adopted her boys.

Christopher married the love of his life, Anne, on March 15, 2008 on a beautiful spring day in his hometown and together had two beautiful daughters, Sophia and Ava. He had a successful career in Human Resources in New Orleans, Memphis, Cedar Rapids and Des Moines.

He was handy with tools, loved fishing and pheasant hunting. Christopher was quick witted and was a great storyteller. He never met a stranger, was down to earth and welcoming to all. In addition to loving his family, Christopher loved all things New Orleans, the Saints, LSU football, and good southern cooking, which he shared with all his friends. Traveling was an important part of his life, including Disney trips and other family trips with his girls, which brought him great joy. Above all else Christopher was a fantastic husband and a wonderful dad for his two beautiful daughters. He leaves behind many family and friends to cherish and keep his memory alive for his girls.

Left behind to cherish his memory include his beloved, Anne; daughters, Sophia and Ava Powers; parents, Brian and Suzette LaCour; brother, Sean (Monica) Powers; parents-in-law, David and Carlene Helgason; sister-in-law, Susan (Wayne) Joplin; nieces, Claire and Mary Evelyn Powers, Peyton Joplin; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Christopher was preceded in death by his father, Carl Powers.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family for Sophia and Ava’s future education. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.AnkenyFuneralHome.com for the Powers family.
