Daniel Moffett, 65, of Hayward passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2016, at Essentia Medical Center in Duluth.

Daniel James Moffett was born Dec. 26, 1950, in Hinsdale, Illinois, the son of John and Shirley (Krause) Moffett. He graduated from Hinsdale High School in 1969, then joined the U.S. Navy on June 18, 1969. Dan was stationed at the Pacific Missile Range Facility on the island of Kauai, Hawaii, where he became an aviation structural mechanic and an H-34 helicopter crew chief. He was honorably discharged on March 2, 1973, and was given the National Defense Service Medal. After his time in the service he attended Tristate College in Angola, Indiana, where he received an associate's degree in machine design. On March 19, 1977, Dan was joined in marriage to Mary Jane Mullen in Oakbrook, Illinois. Dan worked for several businesses doing drafting and machine design before operating his own business, Moffett Precision Products. Dan operated the business from 1986 to 1997 in Somerset, Wisconsin, then moved the business to Hayward. Dan had a great memory and a creative mind. He enjoyed model boats, planes and trains, as well as steamboats. He also liked to read and watch classic movies.
Dan is survived by his wife of 39 years, Mary Jane; one son, Chris (Maria) Moffett of San Diego; mother, Shirley of Scranton, Iowa; three sisters, Cheryl (Glen) Christensen of Scranton, Debra Moffett-Collins of Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois, and Patricia (George) Ferecki of Orange Park, Florida; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, John.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hayward with Father Gerard Willger officiating.

Visitation was held from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at the church.
