Walter Roy, age 89, passed away on December 8, 2012.
Born in Canada, his family moved to Nashville in 1940 where Walter enrolled in West End High School and graduated in 1941.
A veteran of World War II, he was attached to the US Air Force and served in North Africa, Italy, China, Burma and India.
Upon discharge, he returned to the US and married his fiancée, Dorothy Bivins in 1946.
As an innovator in his designs, he was a well-respected residential builder. In his retirement, he achieved acclaim as an accomplished landscape painter.
Married for 66 years, he is survived by his wife, Dorothy; sons, Albert (Laura), Steve, David (Audrey), Charles; grandchildren, Brian (Sarah), Michael (Abbie), Phillip, Matthew, Patrick, David (Ericka), Hannah (Ryan) Gardner, Wilder, Sarah, Bradley, Grace and Isabel; and great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Katelyn and Caroline Benneyworth, and Jordan Singleton.
Visitation with the family will be held on Saturday, December 15th at 1 p.m., in the Parish Hall at Christ Church Cathedral, 900 Broadway, Nashville, TN, followed by a Memorial Service with the Celebration of the Holy Eucharist at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Boy Scouts of America.
