Frances Ann (Enzminger) Schweers was born on May 28, 1929, in Columbus, NE, to Arthur and Martha (Schweitzer) Enzminger. She attended Columbus Public Schools until the 10th grade when her family moved to Council Bluffs, IA. Fran graduated from South High School in Omaha in 1946.
After high school Fran worked for Mutual of Omaha. On November 12, 1949, she married Russell N. Schweers. Fran and Russ were members of the Beemer United Methodist Church. They farmed northeast of Wisner for 49 years. In 1994, Fran and Russ moved into Wisner and became members of the Wisner United Methodist Church of Christ. Fran and Russ enjoyed traveling and golfing together. They spent several months each winter in Mesa, AZ.
Fran was a stay-at-home mom until Kim was a senior in high school. She then worked briefly in the Cuming Co. Assessor’s Office and in 1971 she began working as an administrative assistant at the Wisner Pilger High School until her retirement in 1997. She saw many Gators go through the doors.
Fran was an honorary Admiral of the Nebraska Navy, and an honorary member of the Wisner FFA. She was a long time member of the Northeast Nebraska Master Gardeners. Fran was a member of EP Chapter of the PEO. She and a group of friends were weekly swimmers at Wayne State College for a long period of time.
Fran was an accomplished seamstress. She could knit and do several types of hand work. She could prepare a delicious meal in a very short time. She had beautiful handwriting, and was sorry to see that attribute diminish soon after she was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2011.
Fran was the original “Fashion Police”. She like her clothes and wanted her family to look good. She could issue a Fashion Citation with just an arch of her eyebrow and you knew you could not leave the house until adjustments were made.
Fran had a keen sense of humor and common sense. She called a spade a spade.
Fran is survived by her husband of almost 64 years, Russell Schweers of Wisner, NE; son Kent Schweers and fiancée Peggy Lamprecht of Elkhorn, NE; grandson Kasey Schweers and friend Candice Pond and her daughter Tayla of Omaha; grandson Korey Schweers, wife Amber, and great grandson Kingston of Omaha; daughter Kim Schweers and husband Tom Herzog of O’Neill, NE; grandson Jay Herzog of Lincoln and granddaughter Hayley Herzog of Kearney, NE; beloved sister Ardith Hamilton of Wisner; brother Kenneth Enzminger of Oak Harbor, WA; brother Richard Enzminger of Denver, CO; sisters-in-law Jolene Motzkus, Velma Schweers and Liz Schweers, several nieces and nephews, and many, many friends.
