Billy was a United States Navy Veteran, having served during the Vietnam Conflict, a graduate of Southwest Virginia Community College where he received his Electrician and Welding Degree, a hard working, retired coal miner having worked for Pittston Coal Company for thirty years, and member of the UMWA.
He gave his heart to the Lord six months ago and was a devoted and faithful Christian. He enjoyed fishing on the lake, was an avid NASCAR fan, A loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Brenda, Myrtle, Margie and Effie, brothers Jerry, Daniel and Clyde.
Survivors include his loving wife of fifty years and eight months Delores Jean “Lois” Hurt Boyd of Oakwood, VA; daughter Kristy Diane Bennett and husband David of Johnson City, TN; son Jeffrey Carnell Boyd of Vansant, VA; sisters Ruby Harris and husband Orman, Sadie Keen and husband Cleve all of Oakwood, VA, Loula Jean Boyd of Patterson, VA, half sister Edith Beck of Baltimore, MD; brother Hassell Boyd of Baltimore, MD.
He is also survived by his grandchildren Copeland Bennett, Laykin Bennett and Jacob Boyd, several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service for Billy Carnell Boyd will be held at the Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home Chapel of Keen Mountain, VA, Monday, March 22nd, 2021 at 12:00 noon with Pastor Jerry Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill, VA.
Full military rites will be conducted at the cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Daniel Keen, Randy Hale, Mike Boyd, Cranston Patrick, Danny Shortridge and Jeffery Boyd.
The family will receive friends at the Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home Chapel of Keen Mountain, VA, Sunday, March 21st after 6:00 p.m. with evening service to be held at 7:00 p.m.
In observance of COVID-19 restrictions, social distancing will be observed, and the wearing of masks is required for attendance.
