Backous, age 79, 1226 Lincolnway, Nevada, died Sunday evening at the Story County Hospital in Nevada, after an illness of three years. Funeral services will be held from Ryan Fuuneral Home in Nevada at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, with Pastor Wayne Hanson officiating. Burial will be in the Woodland Cemetery at Iowa Center, Ia. She was born April 27, 1896 in Collins to John and Nancy Vasey. She has lived in Story County all her life. Her husband George W. Backous died in 1969. She is survived by one son, Irvin of Nevada, two daughters: Mrs. Jessie (Luke) Bakka of St. Joseph, Mich., and Mrs. Mray (Clarion) Sampson of Nevada; 11 grandchilre; and 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one brother, George Vasey of Corydon, Ia.; on one sister, Mrs. Ada Smith of Leavenworth, Kan. She was preceded in deaith by her parents, five sisters, four brothers and one granddaughter."
