David Lee Carroll

Husband, Father, Father-in-law, Grandfather

David Lee Carroll passed away peacefully March 16, 2021 in Denison, TX.

Born August 16, 1929 in Anaheim, CA to David Simon Carroll and Della Mae Merritt Carroll.

His family lived in Eureka Springs, AR; Jenks, OK; Oklahoma City and Shawnee, OK.

He served with the National Guard and the 45th Infantry Division 180th Regiment in the occupation of Japan and the Korean War 1951-1952 as leader of a mortar platoon and forward observer. After returning from Korea, he graduated from the Ranger Course at Ft. Benning, GA. He left the service with Honorable Discharge and a final rank of 2nd Lieutenant.

After returning from Korea, David met Bette Lou Edwards at a Woolworth 5 & Dime store. It was love at first sight and they were married August 14th, 1953. He moved the family to the Dallas area shortly after.

David worked as a designer at Chance Vought Aircraft in Grand Prairie, at Westinghouse Electric designing escalators and elevators, and as a designer and illustrator at Texas Instruments Central Research Lab where he retired after 29 years.

In retirement David and Bette enjoyed RVing full time for several years. They looked all over the United States for their retirement home and finally settled on Denison. They enjoyed traveling the world on tours, cruises and just traveling on their own.

He loved poetry and all types of music and games. He loved painting and carving wood, especially birds of all kinds. David volunteered for Home Hospice in the Vet-to-Vet program for 3 years and carved each of his patients a "Comfort Cross".

David is survived by his sister Rebecca Lafferty, wife of 67 years Bette Carroll, son Paul Carroll, grandson Carson Carroll, and daughter-in-law Pamela Carroll.

At David’s request, there will not be a visitation or service. He will be interred in the Dallas-Ft Worth National Cemetery.

Memorial donations in David’s name may be made to the Home Hospice serving Grayson, Cooke, and Fannin Counties at www.homehospice.org.
