Ruth Ellen (Miller) Audlehelm was born October 30, 1927 in Greenbay Township, Clarke County, Iowa. She departed this life on March 4, 2021 at the Clarke County Hospital in Osceola, Iowa.

She was one of four children born to Joseph and Mary (Wilson) Miller.

She grew up in rural Clarke and Decatur counties and graduated from Leroy High School in 1946.

She married the love of her life, Paul, on June 6, 1948 at the Osceola Christian Church. Together they had a dairy farm in Clarke County where they raised their sons Larry and Jim.

Ruth served as deputy Clarke County treasurer for 4 years and Clarke County treasurer for 12 years until retiring in 1982. She and Paul sold the farm and moved to town in 1993. She later worked for Terrible’s Lakeside Casino, retiring again at the age of 80.

Ruth loved cooking for her family and friends, playing bridge, gardening, knitting and reading. She was a loving wife, mother, mother in law, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She and Paul enjoyed dinner clubs, traveling, going to their grandchildren’s events and especially enjoyed dancing. They were nearly inseparable and were almost always holding hands when they were together. Their devotion to each other was great and they were the epitome of a long and loving marriage.

She was an active member of the Murray Church of Christ, Osceola Women’s Club, Research Club, Clarke County Republicans, several bridge clubs and was a 50 plus member of PEO.

She was preceded in death in 2015 by Paul her loving husband of 67 years; her parents; sister Lois Hale and her husband Bill; brother Alfred Miller; brother in law Donald and his wife Betty; parents in law John and Mary; nieces Linda Akers, Marilyn Kirkpatrick and Debbie Harper and nephew Denny Audlehelm.

She is survived by son Larry (Julia) Audlehelm of North Liberty; son Jim (Ronda) of Osceola; foster daughter Rose (Steve)Gilbert of Weldon; grandson John Audlehelm of Des Moines; granddaughter Emily (Aaron) Haworth of North Liberty; grandson Seth (Tyra) Audlehelm of Osceola; grandson Luke Audlehelm of Osceola; grandson Steve (Joey) Gilbert of Leon; granddaughter Jennifer (Kent) Blanke of Kirksville, Mo; granddaughter Jill Asad of Urbandale. Great grandchildren are Zoe and Nolan Haworth; Anson Audlehelm; Dalton, Peyton and Keeton Gilbert; Zach and Luke Blanke; Renee, Brooke and Tristin Piekema and Alianna Asad. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews as well as many friends.

A memorial service will be held on June 5. 2021 at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola.
