Martha was the oldest of four born to Elbert L. Ross, Sr. and Julia Mae James Ross Alexander. She was reared and educated in Ogden, Utah, and was a graduate of Ben Lomond High School. She attended Griffin Memorial, and, in later years, New Zion Baptist Church, where she sang with the choir, and was president and Sunday school teacher. She was also a member of the Red Hats.

Martha moved from California in 1950 with her parents and siblings. She married LaSalle Turner in 1965, and together they had one son.

Martha was a dreamer who worked hard to make those dreams come true. She worked as a supervisor at Cutter Lab and AutoLiv, and later developed an interest in Real Estate, receiving many awards from Coldwell Banker.

At the time of her passing, Martha was survived by her husband, son and daughter-in-law, two sisters, six grandchildren, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, three brothers, and three sisters.
