Born 1935 in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Thomas J and Helen Stevens Johns and was a graduate of West Scranton High School. She was a lifelong devoted member of the Jackson Street Baptist Church where she was a member of the LOA class, chairwoman of the flower committee, prayer chain leader for over 40 years and a member of the missionary committee. She was also a member of the women’s monthly club for over 60 years. Prior to her retirement she had been employed by the Community Medical Center in the housekeeping department. Previous to her time at the CMC she worked at Panel Prints and the Giant Supermarket.
Surviving are her children Randy Freeman and wife Cindy of Fleetville, Cathy Mazzei and her husband Edward of Scranton, Robert Freeman of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware and Janine Freeman of Scranton; three grandchildren Elizabeth Sullivan, Michelle Freeman and Jonathan Mazzei; two great grandchildren Nora and Danny Sullivan; several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a brother Thomas J. Johns, Jr.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11am in the Jackson Street Baptist Church 1204 Jackson Street, West Scranton officiated by Rev. Dr. Elliott Cooke.
Friends may call Saturday morning from 10am until time of service in the church.
All attending are asked to adhere to CDC recommendations regarding the current health crisis including the use of facial coverings and social distancing.
Interment, Washburn Street Cemetery.
