Obituary - "Many Wise county people will regret to learn of the death of J.E. Bray of the Valley View community, Dec. 14, 1934. John Bray was born in Indiana in 1866, moved to Wise County in 1918. In 1919 he was married to Miss Lee Parish at Bridgeport. His wife and two children survive him. John Bray was an industrious, useful citizen, the kind of a man who helps to produce the wealth of the world and receives very little in return, unless the affection of his neighbors and friends be deemed a compensation that wealth can never buy. While venal deeds pollute the pages of our newspapers for a day, the golden deeds of the Good Samaritan will shine forever..." (per The Wise County Messenger dated 27 Dec 1934).
Tom's Note - a minor error in the obituary is his place of birth. Although both of his parents were born in Indiana and married there in 1861, they moved to Missouri in about 1865, where John Edward Bray was born in 1866 (per the 1870 census for Jasper County MO).
