George W. Hamilton, age 87, of Athens, passed away on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at his son’s residence in Springfield surrounded by his family.

He was born on August 24, 1933 in Athens, Illinois, the son of Ray and Mildred (Adams) Hamilton.

Mourning his passing are his sons, Bill Hamilton and Dave (wife Grace) Hamilton; daughter, Glenna Carpenter; companion, Maureen Kelly; sister, Betty (husband Jim) Jennings; four grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

George is preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Mildred; brother, Raymond; and sisters, Darlene Richardson and Rose Leamon.

George loved hunting, fishing, morel hunting, mowing and the outdoors.

He retired after 30 years of service at Allis Chalmers Manufacturing Co. at age 48. He enjoyed retirement life and always helping others.

George was one of a kind and he will be missed greatly by all who knew him. Our memories of George will forever bless our lives.

Celebration of life will be held at a later date.
